Starting the summer tourism season of Con Dao

Con Dao is always a 'hot' destination on the tourist map, especially in the summer. At this time, the number of bookings seem to increase gradually. Con Dao authority also actively prepares the best facilities to welcome tourists.

The number of service bookings increase gradually

According to the Con Dao National Park Management Board, during the holidays of April 30 and May 1, Con Dao welcomes from 4,000 to more than 6,000 tourists each day, the hotel room capacity reaches more than 94%. After that days, the number of  tourists coming here with about 2,000 arrivals per day.

According to Ms. Vo Thi Van, member of the Management Board of Con Dao National Tourist Areas, May is the time when students take exams, so the number of tourists to Con Dao is reduced compared to the first months of 2023. However, from June onwards, Con Dao The island has entered the peak tourist season.

'The tourists coming to summer tourism is mainly resort tourism combined with spiritual tourism, participating in eco-tours of the sea and islands. We expect the whole district to welcome about 65,000 tourists in June,' said Ms. Vo Thi Van.

Surveying at many hotels in the area, although the number of tourists renting hotel rooms and using services is slower than the same period in 2022, there is an increasing trend for both weekdays and weekends. In which, on the last days of June, many hotels and resorts have more than 80% of rooms preserved.

A representative of Six Senses Con Dao Resort said that on weekends from June to the end of August, more than 80% of the rooms of Six Senses Con Dao Resort have been booked. However, the daily capacity is still quite low, only reaching about 40%. In July, when secondary and high school students complete their final exams, the demand for tourism will surely increase dramatically.

In addition, there are more international tourists to Vietnam because Vietnam is strengthening the tourism promotion to the key international markets. 'The summer weather in Con Dao is nice, not too hot, along with the continuous operation of ships and planes, promising tourism in the summer peak season will be bustling and crowded with tourists,' a representative of Six Senses Con Dao Resort expected.

Aiming at providing tourists with a safe and satisfying holiday, Con Dao promotes to create the impression of an attractive destination with the good service, friendly environment, and stable price.

Specifically, the district's inter-sectoral delegation went to each service business to propagate for them to raise their awareness of reputable trading, register selling prices, clearly list service prices and commit not to raise prices when demand is larger than supply as well as ensuring food hygiene and safety. The delegation also encouraged the tourists to save electricity and water, reduce the use of plastic items and plastic bags to contribute to the local goal of reducing plastic waste.

In mid-May, the Department of Tourism coordinated with local authorities to check the compliance with regulations on the travel business. According to Ms. Vo Thi Van, the inspection aims to promptly correct and overcome shortcomings to serve customers better and more attentively.

Improvement of visitor experiences

Summer is considered the golden season of tourism. Businesses in Con Dao area pay attention to improving facilities, replacing degraded equipment, recruiting and training skilled workers to best serve tourists. In addition, some businesses have launched stimulus packages to keep tourists staying longer and spending more.

Traveling to the small islands to enjoy the scenery, watching turtles lay eggs, diving and watching corals - one of the unique products of Con Dao, is also promoted in summer. Mrs. Luc Thi Mai Quynh, Director of Greenland Travel - Mai Quynh Con Dao Tourism, coordinating with Con Dao National Park to provide tours to Cau island, said that businesses are offering the experience eco-tourism services on Cau island with overnight tour and day tour. In which, the day tour costs 999,000 VND/pax, the overnight tour costs 1,490,000 VND/pax.

Joining the tour, guests can experience coral diving, visit Hon Cau, trekking in the forest, eating, rowing sup, checking in... With the night tour, tourists will stay in bungalows and tents. 'The tour to Hon Cau is still open daily with a fixed schedule of canoes departing at 7, 8 and 13 hours daily,' said Ms. Luc Thi Mai Quynh.

Currently, Con Dao National Park also offers a variety of schedules to visit small islands, watch turtles lay eggs, and go trekking in the forest for guests to choose in accordance with the island's travel itinerary. However, the sea and forests of Con Dao are strictly preserved. Before 8 am and after 3 pm, all activities of picking up and dropping off tourists in and out of the small island are strictly prohibited.

With the tour to see turtles laying eggs, the islands with many turtles on the spawning grounds such as Bay Canh Island, Cau Island only serves 50 tourists at a time. Therefore, it's necessary for tourists to find out the above information and plan in advance for a pefect ecological experience of the sea and islands.
